The students lived in a prison-like environment known as The Residence and were guarded at all times by a little slip of a woman who would have made a wonderful companion for that guy with the mirrored sunglasses in Cool Hand Luke. She was smart, had a great sense of humour and, unlike the cliche, she really had seen and heard it all when it came to excuses or tricks used by some of the more adventurous students to get around the curfew, or no visitors rules then in force.
It all worked out somehow, in that magical time of our collective youth and perhaps partly because of the patina of forbidden fruit that the guard dog and the fences and the locked doors wrapped around these students they were a very desirable and much sought after commodity in what passed for the dating scene of the time. Most of which consisted of swilling beer at the Pretzel Bell or taking in faded rock stars at The Embassy when budgets would allow.
40 years on, I must confess that I am still waiting for the "Easy" part but it has been interesting and at times a great deal of fun. I even managed to get back at my friend for raising false expectations by introducing him to his very own "Easy" nursing student and they too will be celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary this coming year.
It's Valentine's day and I did not buy any chocolates so this will have to suffice. It has been a great ride and I have managed to remain hopeful and optimistic about the future by focussing on the long promised "Easy" part to come. I just can't wait.
Thanks Anne and Happy Valentine' s Day.
Historical Note:
Last summer, almost all of the great gals from the HSC class of '67 showed up at the Nottawasaga Inn in Alliston to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their graduation. I have to say, they are still a very good looking group and could easily stir (or break) the hearts (and pacemakers) of any of those then justoutofteens guys who may still be hanging around looking for that perfect match.
I offer proof below.
Well done Ladies!!
