The Elder Geek was once asked the following question.

If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?

That question, of course, tells us reams ( an olde English term meaning a lot ) about the lack of imagination on the part of the questioner and is one that I would not normally deign to answer. However, if pressed, I would say that I am perhaps one of those trees way out in the forest, perhaps an Alder Geek, which, if it fell, would not make a noise because no one is listening.

Writing a blog is like that some days. You ponder, you type, (well, if you are a man, you don't type of course, you "Keyboard Interface") you look at the output of your efforts, and then you delete, erase and or cut your prose and start over. Desperately seeking the perfect words to express your imperfect thoughts.

I guess that is the secret to everything though. NOTHING is perfect although sometimes we think we have found a perfect thing, or experienced a perfect moment and indeed we have, until the next, more perfect moment or thing comes along. Our previous moment is no longer perfect by definition, for we have found a new, better example, but it is not diminished by this new experiential moment. It is just yesterday's news, and like yesterday's news, it is now relegated to our mental archives for imperfect storage, where it floats in peril in an ever expanding pool of memories, good and bad, voluntary and forced, all of them fighting for top of mind recall status to no particular end or purpose.

Writing new stuff every day is a masochistic pursuit of perfection. Like Sisyphus, we push that stone up the hill with a relentless determination to make it to the top, THIS TIME.

This is one of those times, to be followed by more.

Because none of us are quite as singular in purpose or practice as we like to think, our thoughts here are presented in one of two forums.

Sweetwater Corners is home to a recounting of personal happenings and observations on the life that surrounds our public life. Pics of family, friends, pets and the stories that surround them will be found under this icon.

The Elder Blog is where our thoughts on the world at large are presented in no particular order or following no particular theme. Random ideas and little bits of outrage may spill over into these stories at anytime. Good therapy for me, hopefully interesting and thought provoking reading for you.

Welcome aboard.
